Pagani has officially unveiled its new Huayra Roadster BC just ahead of its public debut at Pebble Beach next month. Like all Paganis, the new Huayra Roadster BC encompasses impeccable attention to detail inside and out. Founder Horacio Pagani is a strict follower of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Art and Science design philosophy. Like 2017's Huayra BC coupe, the Huayra Roadster BC is named in honor of Benny Caiola, a close personal friend of Mr. Pagani who also happened to be his first customer.
Pagani claims this new Roadster was an "unprecedented, technical challenge” due to the need to provide maximum performance, a track-like driving experience, and slashing excess weight. Designed to generate an aerodynamic load with a downforce target of 1,102 lbs at 174 mph, Pagani designers and engineers still managed to maintain a ground clearance that allows driver and passenger to enjoy driving in all weather conditions, on public roads and tracks.
The front end was developed to guarantee the heat exchange required for the bespoke AMG V12 engine and to simultaneously generate downforce. The rear end completes air extraction and keeps the hypercar’s pressure center constant. The large wing, meanwhile, was even designed to be useful at average road speeds. There’s also an all-new titanium six-exhaust pipe system that includes two extra direct outlets hidden in the rear diffuser that generates even more downforce.
Like previous Huayras, there’s an active aerodynamic system combined with a dynamic suspension for superior stability. The chassis is composed of an exclusive composite technology based on carbon fiber and carbon-titanium that increases torsional rigidity by 12% and flexion rigidity by 20%. The suspension features advanced electronics to further increase performance, stability, and safety.
And then there’s that luscious V12. Developed exclusively for Pagani by Mercedes-AMG, this all-new 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 has "more than 800 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque" at 2,000 rpm. Official performance figures weren't revealed, but the "standard" Huayra Roadster makes the sprint from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds and has a 210 mph top speed. Chances are the Huayra Roadster BC has improved on those figures.
Pagani has equipped the hypercar with new turbochargers, a revolutionary hydroformed manifold, twin throttle bodies, and four water-air intercoolers. Impressively, this engine meets all the latest international emissions standards, even in California. No hybrid system was necessary. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential gearbox. Total vehicle dry weight is just 2,755 pounds.
Wearing a set of Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires (also bespoke for Pagani), the Huayra Roadster BC achieved a lateral acceleration of 1.9 g during constant running. The 14-spoke rims are composed of a forged alloy. Brembo carbon-ceramic 6-piston brakes are at the rear while 4-piston units are at the front.
The interior is, as always for Pagani, unlike anything else. It’s a stunning blend of elegance and style, this time featuring carbo-wood and finely embossed leather. There are also racing style, four-point seatbelts, and a nine-channel audio system. Limited to just 40 examples, each Pagani Huayra Roadster BC is priced at €3,085,000, or around $3,438,695 according to current exchange rates. No word yet on whether all examples have been sold, but it won't be long.
Pagani has also announced the Huayra Roadster BC will be available to "drag race" in CSR Racing 2, the world's most popular mobile drag racing game. Players will be able to "park" their Pagani in their virtual driveway so they can check out every technical detail hidden beneath its stunning carbon fiber body.
